Good Place to Check out for your Home Renos

Habitat ReStores -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1: "Habitat ReStores are retail outlets where quality used and surplus building materials are sold at a fraction of normal prices. Proceeds from ReStores help local affiliates fund the construction of Habitat houses within the community. Many affiliates across the United States and Canada operate successful ReStores—some of which raise enough funds to build an additional 10 or more houses per year.

Materials sold by Habitat ReStores are usually donated from building supply stores, contractors, demolition crews or from individuals who wish to show their support for Habitat. In addition to raising funds, ReStores help the environment by rechanneling good, usable materials into use."

We did it!

Three weeks later.... poof! A park is built!

As part of T4G's 10 year anniversary, a number of us are getting involved in the community with the Project X program.

1967 is remembered as one of the most notable years in Canada, as it was our 100 year anniversary of Confederation. T4G would like it's Project X program to be inspired by some of the events that took place that year.

A goal of one of our co-workers is to get the Leaf's to win the Stanley Cup in '06. It happened in '67...

Another is to train disadvantaged youth in the community on how to use and develop software and technology.

Our group's effort was to build a playground. It happened at Sherbourne and Dundas on September 17, 2005 with lots of help from CanPlay, Toronto Community Housing, and Housing Services Inc.

Another event that will be announced shortly is an enormous fund-raising effort to support Portage.

The Portage Program is one of North America's leading organizations in the treatment of drug abuse and character disorders. The Portage treatment approach is based on the principles of the therapeutic community: people helping people and self-help. The treatment centres are designed to ensure the physical and psychological safety essential to the recovery process. A number of therapeutic techniques including role modelling, group and individual counselling and collaborative treatment planning are used to help residents change their behaviour. The ultimate aim of the program is personal growth and living drug-free.

If you feel that you can help us, please contact Portage or T4G via the information at www.t4g.com and Portage.

Thanks to all who are reading this page and help us to celebrate 2005 in Canada and abroad by giving to your community and the people who need it most.

The Playground Campaign - A project of the Neighborhood Parks Council

The Playground Campaign - A project of the Neighborhood Parks Council: "Yes! Community ingenuity and resources can be harnessed to rebuild playgrounds at the lowest cost possible.

The Playground Campaign, a partnership between the Neighborhood Parks Council and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, helps reduce the costs of playground renovation. The campaign fosters community involvement in every aspect of renovating a playground, from neighborhood fundraising, design and site preparation to the actual installation of the equipment on Build Day."

CA and KaBOOM! Join Forces to Build Three Playgrounds in One Day

ISLANDIA, N.Y., August 20, 2003 — Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) is partnering with KaBOOM!, a nonprofit organization, and more than 600 employee volunteers, community members and customers to build three playgrounds today to benefit more than 6,000 children in the New York Metropolitan area. Each playground is being built with a community organization that has demonstrated the need for a safe, accessible and well-designed recreation area for children.
CA and KaBOOM! have been building playgrounds for children throughout the United States since 2000. By the end of today, 19 playgrounds will have been built to benefit 60,000 children. The organizations plan to complete 45 playgrounds by next year.

Project - Any Bodies Playground

Any Bodies Playground’ is a Boundless Playground being developed in Battle Creek’s Bailey Park through the innovative Able to Play project. The goal of Able to Play is to create uniquely designed play environments where children with and without disabilities will be stimulated and have the opportunity to laugh, play, and grow together.

Playground Equipment Playground Fundraising Challenge

The whole concept of playground fundraising is an interesting one. You call in favours, recruit dedicated leaders, research government funding options, and work relentlessly to get the community involved. The varying levels of how you implement the fundraising plan is the largest asset in determining the success of such a project.

If one were to look at the "bigger picture", having a quality, safe, accessible play structure, is one of the 21st century's answers to modern child development. In the days of old, playing in a field or just exploring nature were status quo for the times, but today's urban kids demand more . Kids are growing up with technology, computers, video games, the NET! My 4 year old nephew can access the web and navigate a variety of sites, but my 60 year old father can't, or even more importantly, won't. The point quite simply is, today's kids live in a more modern environment. They need socially, physically and mentally challenging opportunities, ones that bring them back to their roots. One way of presenting these challenges, is a community play structure.

Community Built - Commercial Playground Equipment - BigToys

Community Built - Commercial Playground Equipment - BigToys: "Community BuiltBigToys Community Built Playgrounds

Frequently, building a playground for a park or school is a community effort. Thousands of school and community groups have installed BigToys as volunteer projects throughout North America. And they ended up with more than just wonderful, long-lasting play equipment. They also built pride in their schools and parks and a sense of community while having fun doing it. Studies indicate that public spaces that are built and supported in this way often have a lower incidence of vandalism too."

Playground Resources

One of the many ways Kiwanians serve the children of the world is by funding, building, renovating, improving, and maintaining playgrounds in their communities. Kiwanis International has partnered with the (United States) National Program for Playground Safety to provide Kiwanians with community-service information related to playgrounds and playground safety. Look for more information in the April 2005 issue of KIWANIS magazine.
